Hope for Lativia

If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who made them; but kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship.

Education and Training

Putting young people through Further Education or into Training for the workplace is now taking a higher priority in Hope for Latvia.

Equipping young people with right education and/or skills is vital if they are to integrate into society. Coming from poor backgrounds has meant many are leaving school without a solid a complete education in place. Many have missed from 2 - 4 years of schooling nad now need help. If we can help and support them, they in turn will be in a position to help their families and others. We are continually looking at ways to support them in further education or individual work training programmes.

We can only support a few at the moment, but already we can see the benefits.

Some training programmes will take some years while others will take only a few months, depending on workplace requirements.

There are many others that need support to enable them to join the workplace. We believe supporting young people in Latvia in this way to be one of the best investments to make. It will equip young people to become self-sufficient and take their place in society.

Please contact us if you want to help young people in Latvia this way.

Families

Hope for Latvia believe that investment in families can make a significant difference to life in Latvia.

In God's love and partnership with supporters we are committed to providing families with financial and pastoral help.

The programme of support for these families is managed by local staff and monitored as to their needs. Sometimes the money is not given directly to the families and is used to pay fuel bills and rent.

This support is vital in ensuring that families can live above the lower poverty levels. To this end we support these families with £50 per month.

If you feel you can help with a family, either with the whole £50 or just a part of that amount, please ring Derek Blois on 01263 734198 (daytime) or 01263 732237 (evening) or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Some of those that support families have now gone over to Latvia and met them personally. Speaking to them after their visits they have been greatly moved by the experience and can testify to the need for such support.

Over the past years Latvia has seen the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. As the country adjusts to world economic forces many people now struggle to maintain any normal standard of living. Many are now living at the point where even food, fuel and rent are often unobtainable.

High unemployment and rising costs have taken a heavy toll on family life as many turn to crime and alcohol.

These families need help!
