Meet The Families

The situation is more than just statistics and data. Behind these numbers are people who want their stories to be told; so that the world may be stirred into action to help them build a future for themselves.

Hope for Latvia currently works with 25 families, below are a couple of stories of people whose lives we are helping to transform.

Olega's Story

OlegaOlega has worked tirelessly to provide for her family, often holding down 2-3 jobs whilst caring for her children.  She could not always make ends meet, and like any loving mother she has often gone without, simply to help her children to survive. The family made it through every day until her husband walked out to seek his dream life in a wealthier European country. Since then she has had to give up her jobs to concentrate on looking after her children. Isolated from society through poverty, no one knew the full extent of her terrible situation until Hope for Latvia met her

Ingar's story

Ingar

Ingar and her three young children occupy two small rooms on the third floor of a block of social housing. These blocks are warrens for alcoholics and drug users; there are no lights and no way of regulating who enters the block. The corridors are covered in graffiti, damp and are freezing cold in winter.  There is a stench from the single toilet used by the 6 families on the floor. But to the boys this is their play ground and place of adventure, not because they enjoy playing here but simply because there is nowhere else for them to go.
